Gedikpasa Turkish Bath

Gedikpasa Turkish Bath

Gedikpaşa Bath is located on the way down to Kumkapı from Divanyolu, in Istanbul, also exactly it is located in Gedikpaşa Street; the bath has the same name with the street. It was built by Gedik Ahmet Pasha in 1475. Gedikpaşa Bath which is one of the oldest baths in Istanbul is a double bath with its women and men sections. It has walking distance away from the Grand Bazaar, Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque.
The dressing section is covered by a large dome and has a square shape. There is a pool in the middle of dressing section. In the cold section of the bath, there is a coffee table and the section is covered by a dome. When entering the hot section, in the middle a huge octagonal shaped central stone with 4 halvet welcome the guests. The bath still seems beautiful and its men’s section is bigger than the women’s section but dressing and hot sections of them are the same. Green and red porphyries in the dressing and cold sections of men and women baths are decorated the sofas, these are really interesting. Marble pieces also fascinate people who admire the history. Especially when seeing the elegant basins which are decorated with jewelries and valuable stones, people can’t take their eyes on them. The monument was built with smooth cut stones, rubble stones and mortars and its cold section’s domes are covered by bricks; the domes of the other sections are covered with stones.
Although Gedikpaşa Bath needs a little repair, it is a bath which is one of the most preferred baths by tourist. The bath is more attractive for being clear and having reasonable fees. Before going to this bath which is in a central location, you can visit the Grand Bazaar or the Blue Mosque.
