Gedikpasa Turkish Bath

Gedikpasa Turkish Bath

Gedikpasa Hamam dates from the 15th century and is one of Istanbul’s oldest hamams. Built by a vizier of Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror, Mimar Hayrettin, this important historical building is within easy walking distance to the old town’s sites including the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the Grand Bazaar.

The entrance area has a beautiful domed ceiling with decorated arches and a fountain as well as a series of lockable cabins for guests’ use. On arrival, guests are provided with a pestemal and access to one of these cabins. They are then taken to the hot washing section of the bath where there is a central marble platform, small basins and a sauna as well as a small swimming pool, something which is not often found in hamams.

After a spot in the sauna, customers are treated to a massage and exfoliating scrub on the central stone followed by a dip in the pool or washing at the basins.

Gedikpasa Hamam, though in need of some sprucing up, is nevertheless a clean and reasonably priced hamam which remains popular with locals and tourists alike.

Hamam entrance: 30 TL
Entrance & scrubs & massage: 50 TL
